mvQuery Components and Technical Requirements
Server Install
The mvQuery Server Install files are necessary for all mvQuery products to function. This component provides the back-end software that runs on the database server to communicate with all other mvQuery products. Database servers supported include all versions of UniVerse, UniData and D3 currently supported by Rocket Software. The underlying operating system may be any supported by Rocket Software for the database, usually Windows, Linux and some versions of Unix.
Query and Report Designer
The mvQuery Query and Report Designer is aimed at developers, power users and operational users who are tasked with creating new reports or data extractions from a multivalue database. This component provides all the tools necessary to work with multivalue data, a powerful report designer, an export library plus scripting and result processing tools. It runs on Windows 10, 11 and Windows Server 2012, 2016, 2019 and 2022.
Windows Report Viewer
The Windows Report Viewer is aimed at operational users who are tasked with generating reports or data extractions from a multivalue database. It uses saved queries created by the Query and Report Designer. It runs on Windows 10, 11 and Windows Server 2012, 2016, 2019 and 2022.
Print Server
The mvQuery Print Server is a high volume solution for running reports and exports. It can be installed on Windows 10, 11 and Windows Server 2012, 2016, 2019 and 2022. Although it can be installed on the same computer as your database server, installing it on one or more other computers offers peformance offloading from your database server.
The mvQuery Print Server Edition (PSE) extends the capabilities of the mvQuery Standard Edition to the enterprise and embeds reporting into your applications. The mvQuery Print Server uses stored query definitions, reports and exports that have been designed using the Standard Edition, and lets you run these from a Basic API or command line directly from your MultiValue database.
The Standard Edition is loaded onto the users’ PCs and can be run interactively, or automated using the built-in scripting language. These are useful for doing repeated tasks but are not scalable to allow for large scale production or exporting.
The Print Server Edition provides that scalability. The Print Server Edition runs as a service and processes requests for reports and exports in parallel. These requests are triggered directly from your database, such that the Print Server Edition becomes an extension of your application.
